A Look at the $99 Backbone One PlayStation Edition for iPhone

Portable gaming is more popular than ever, and while Sony is yet to (officially) announce a new handheld console, they have been turning their focus to mobile games.

One device that could potentially add a bit more to the mobile gaming experience is the Backbone One controller.

It’s a smartphone gaming controller that works with apps like PS Remote Play, the Xbox App, and Steam. The Backbone One comes in two versions: the standard one, which comes in black and has an XYAB button layout that looks like an Xbox controller, and the PlayStation edition, which comes with PlayStation logos and a PS5 colorway. (The Backbone is compatible with iPhone 6S and up, but Android users can only buy the Standard edition for now.)

The controller also comes with a headphone jack and power port, allowing you to charge your phone while connected. But, the controller’s performance depends on your internet connection. If your internet or cell reception isn’t great, your games will be slow and laggy.
